Welcome To LFC Cody Gakpo!

by Matthew Taylor

Hey Reds! The January transfer window has barely opened, and Liverpool has already made a massive signing in the form of Cody Gakpo! The twenty-three-year-old was signed from Eredivise powerhouse, PSV Eindhoven. The transfer fee LFC paid is reported to be in the range of $45,000,000, which sees Gakpo sign a five-and-a-half-year contract. The transfer came as a bit of a surprise, as it seemed all reports pointed towards Manchester United signing the Dutchman, but who can blame him for wanting to play for the mighty Reds?!

Cody Gakpo has emerged as one of the most promising young players in the world after his performances this season for both club and country. Gakpo has an astounding 9 goals and 12 assists in 14 games for PSV this season. The exciting attacker also made headlines for scoring 3 goals in 5 World Cup games for the Netherlands in his first World Cup!

Gakpo is a dynamic attacker who usually starts on the left but looks to cut inside on his favored right foot. The Dutchman is a fantastic dribbler, and when you pair that with his electric speed it makes him a nightmare for any defender.

"He's a really, really, really good player, so the package is really interesting. The age he is in, the potential he shows, or has, and the quality he showed already in Holland and with the national team as well, so it makes him a really, really interesting player." Klopp told Liverpool's official website.

Gakpo will follow in Dutch Liverpool legend, Dirk Kuyt's footsteps in wearing the number 18 jersey for the Reds. Kuyt reached out to Gakpo via Twitter and said, "this number has brought me lots of magic, and I hope it will bring you the same kinda magic too." There is also no doubt that Virgil van Dijk, the Dutch captain, had an influence on Gakpo's decision. So thank you, agent Virgil!

If this hasn't excited you enough, then have a watch of a Cody Gakpo highlight video, created by a Liverpool fan on YouTube.
