Mo And Sadio In The AFCON Semis

by Matthew Taylor

Hey Reds! We are up to the semi-finals stage of the Africa Cup of Nations and two of our three reds will feature. Mane's Senegal πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡³ will face Burkina Faso πŸ‡§πŸ‡« on Wednesday, while Mo's Egypt πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬ will face Cameroon πŸ‡¨πŸ‡² on Thursday. This means we could see a final of Mo versus Sadio this coming Sunday!

Unfortunately, Naby's Guinea was knocked out in the round of 16 against Gambia. Naby will come back to Liverpool with his head held high after his fantastic performances as captain for his country. Naby was named Man of The Match in two of his three games at AFCON. He was unable to play in the knockout game due to a suspension.

Mane currently has two goals and one assist in the tournament and will be looking to lead his country to the final. Thankfully Sadio seems to have fully recovered from his nasty head clash with the Cape Verde goalkeeper. He was stretchered off the field, not before scoring an outstanding goal, and there was serious doubt about whether he would return to action in AFCON. Senegal was one of the big favorites to win, despite never winning the tournament ever! Mane will be dreaming of leading his country to their first-ever AFCON trophy.

Mo also has two goals and one assist in the tournament and will look to continue his impressive form heading into the game against Cameroon. Salah was named captain of Egypt in 2019 and has been quoted multiple times about just how much winning this tournament would mean to him. Egypt is the country with the most AFCON wins in the tournament's history with seven. However, Salah only made his debut in the year after their last win, so he will have his eyes set on his first major international trophy.

Obviously, I want both Mo and Sadio to reach the final, but that will leave us Reds in a tricky situation. I don't know who I'd cheer for, and regardless of who wins, we will see a heartbroken Red either way.

Good luck Mo and Sadio! πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡¬πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡³
