Mane Leads Senegal To The AFCON Trophy

by Matthew Taylor

Hey Reds! The Africa Cup Of Nations has just ended. Liverpool fans were put in the difficult spot of watching two fan-favorites compete against each other with their respective countries. It was a tight game that was eventually settled by a penalty shootout. Our boy Sadio clinched the win for Senegal with the decisive spot-kick!

This sadly meant it was heartbreak for Mo Salah, who was playing for his first international trophy with his country Egypt. Mo is already back in training with Liverpool looking to get over this disappointment. Good luck to his opponents who will now have to face an angry and motivated Salah!

Mane made history with his country, as this is the first time Senegal has won the AFCON trophy. It has been a long wait for a country that is seen as an African powerhouse. Mane was the key man for Senegal, which led to him being awarded the Player of the Tournament for his contributions in Cameroon. It's clear to see how much this win means for both Senegal and Sadio, with Mane stating, "it’s the best day of my life."

It's important to note that Sadio didn't just shine on the pitch, but off it as well. The Liverpool attacker paid for a large group of Senegal fans to fly to Cameroon to watch their country in the semi-final and final. Another story also came out, which came after Sadio was checked into a hospital after a nasty clash of heads against Cape Verde. Sadio paid the entire hospital bill for a family who's young boy was fighting life-threatening injuries. You just can't hate this man!

The end of the AFCON means that us Reds will have all our players back in the squad. This is massive for the club as we look to chase down Man City in the league and look to continue to progress in the Champions League and FA Cup.
