Liverpool FC Women - Season Review

by Matthew Taylor

Hey Reds! Liverpool FC Women take on Arsenal in a massive FA Cup clash. This fifth-round game will take place at Prenton Park on Sunday morning. This cup game will see the clash of two top-table teams. The Reds are top of the Women's Super League 2, while Arsenal is top of the Women's Super League. Despite being in the lower league, LFC will head into the game with confidence being in great form. Let's take a look at the Red's fantastic season so far.

The Reds headed into the 21/22 campaign after finishing third in the league in the previous year. Currently, LFC sits top of the league, ten points clear of London City in second. The Reds will have their eyes set on the title and promotion with seven games left.

LFC has only lost one league game this season. They have also won every away league game! The Reds sit top of the goalscoring chart with 33 and have also conceded the least amount of goals, only letting in 5! That's right, only 5 goals conceded this season!

Leanne Kiernan is Liverpool's top scorer with 12 goals in 15 league appearances. Yana Daniels is second with 4 goals and there are few Reds in third with 3 goals scored, including the American Katie Stengal. Rachel Furness has the most assists for LFC in the league with 5. Melissa Lawley is second with 4 and Stengal and Daniels sit third with 3 each. The goal contribution numbers are very much shared across the entire team, showing how important each player is to this title chase!

Like LFC Men's, the Red Women love their goals! They have had multiple high-scoring wins this season, including a 6-0 thrashing against Blackburn in January. Klopp's men obviously took inspiration for their recent game against Leeds!

Liverpool head into the game on the weekend in great form, having won their last seven league games. This will be their biggest game of the season so far, so much so that the game was rescheduled to ensure that there was not a clash with the men's final.

Liverpool FC Women has an impressive history since its formation, both on and off the field. They have won multiple league and cup titles. They are also seen as one of the pioneers for the women's game after they were the first English team to offer all their players full-time professional contracts in 2013.

Boss stuff! πŸ‘Β
