Champions League Preview
Hey Reds! The Champions League returns this week! If it feels a bit earlier than usual, that's because it is. Due to the first ever winter World Cup that starts in late November, the Champions League has been pushed-up to ensure the competition is completed. I'm not complaining! The greatest club competition is back! 🏆
The group stage draw took place on August 25th, which provided the three teams that would make up the Reds' group. Liverpool was placed in Group A alongside Ajax, Napoli, and Rangers. The Reds will start their European campaign against Napoli on September 7th.
Napoli
Napoli is an Italian team located in Naples. Located 1,483 miles from Anfield is Napoli's home stadium. Named after their late and great former player, Maradona, the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium is the third biggest stadium in Italy. Napoli finished third in the 21/22 Serie A season, behind Milan and Inter. Potential dangerous players to watch for Napoli are Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Victor Osimhen, and Piotr Zieliński. The Italian side was in Liverpool's Champions League group in 2010/11, 2018/19, and 2019/2020.
Ajax
Ajax is a Dutch team located in Amsterdam. Located 547.2 miles from Anfield is Ajax's home stadium. Also named after one of their club legends, Cruijff, the Johan Cruijff ArenA is the biggest stadium in the country. Ajax won the 21/22 Eredivisie title, which was their 36th league title. Potential dangerous players to watch for Ajax are Dušan Tadić, Steven Berghuis, and Steven Bergwijn. The Dutch side was in Liverpool's Champions League group in 2020/2021.
Rangers
Rangers is a Scottish team located in Glasgow. Located 219 miles from Anfield is Rangers' home stadium. Named after the area of Glasgow where it's located, Ibrox, the Ibrox Stadium is the third biggest stadium in Scotland. Rangers finished second in the 21/22 Scottish Premiership season, behind Celtic. Potential dangerous players to watch for Rangers are James Tavernier, Antonio Čolak, and former LFC player Ryan Kent. The Scottish side has never played Liverpool in a competitive match.
