2021 Virtual Run for the 96 5K - Here's How to Participate

by Alisha Weiss

Run For The 96 returns in May and we’re thrilled that The 23 Foundation has once again been named as an official beneficiary for the 2021 event.

Due to the ongoing pandemic this year’s event is once again going virtual and takes place on Saturday 22 May 2021.

There are 5K and 1 Mile options and you can walk, jog or run to remember The 96. Why not complete your chosen virtual distance with a friend, socially distanced of course!

Everyone who registers will be sent their run number and commemorative medal. The entry fee has been reduced to reflect the virtual format, register at https://www.btrliverpool.com/965k

Run For The 96 was first staged in 2015 as a positive community legacy event to celebrate the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans who died in the Hillsborough tragedy on 15 April 1989. The special event also remembers the families of The 96 and the survivors, who have tirelessly fought for justice with the utmost dignity.

Run For The 96 has the support of the Hillsborough Family Support Group (HFSG).

Everyone taking part is encouraged to fundraise or make a one-off donation, and all monies raised will be split equally between the four beneficiaries which includes The 23 Foundation.

Donations can be made through the event’s official Just Giving page – and don’t forget to add Gift Aid, it makes a huge difference. Visit https://justgiving.com/campaign/runforthe96

Our fellow beneficiaries are the LFC Foundation; Everton in the Community; and Stanley Park CIC. Together we support the vision of creating a legacy event to honour The 96 while ensuring local communities benefit through our work – and we’re all extremely grateful for your support.

Last year 1,600 took part virtually and Run For The 96 went global. Football supporters pulled on their trainers to run virtually in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Greece, Malaysia, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and United States Of America. As well as runners from across Liverpool and the wider United Kingdom.
