In a bold move by manager Brendan Rodgers, Liverpool started the match on the road at St. Mary’s without striker in the line-up. As it turned out Liverpool didn’t need one to see of a hard fighting Southampton. Goals by Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling guaranteed Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Southampton. This victory extended their unbeaten run in the Premier League to 10 games. Taking a look at the table, they also sit only three points from third place.
Taking a look at the upcoming schedule, Liverpool play Manchester City, Burnley (who drew versus Chelsea), an FA Cup quarterfinal against Rovers, Swansea (who beat Manchester United), Manchester United followed by Arsenal. Liverpool is still alive in the Europa League as well, thanks to Mario Balotelli’s penalty versus Beskitas (I’ll take it). The rest of March is pivotal to whether we are celebrating the continued momentum of Steven Gerrard’s final season with Liverpool, versus hoping the rest of the league is struggling as well to keep their ship afloat into May. The way the youthful core of Liverpool is playing with Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho creating the chances, I like our odds.
